"Alex you couldn't crush anything if you tried. And... I just... don't want you to disappear again. It's been nice having you around again the past few years." Allison didn't want to press the point too far, but she was worried Alex might run off again, if not for five years this time.

They were nearing Starbucks then, another block and then they'd be in the den of the hipsters. "Alli . . . I'm not going to leave again. I've got it good here now. I'm not under Dan's roof, and I'd never leave you. Who's going to make sure you don't slack on your guitar skills?" She meant it, humour aside. She had no intention of leaving. They'd be the best of friends forever.
"Oh, hey, I uh . . . wanted to ask you something. I wanted to yesterday, actually, but then aunt Lucy was there, and her kids . . . damn hellions are worse than me when I was their age," she laughed. "That night―with the debut―did you see anything weird? Police said some sort of bomb was smuggled in, but―I don't know, I just thought I― . . . ehh." She shrugged weakly, not sure of what she was even saying.

Allison nodded, accepting her sister's answer as best as she could. There was still a bit of fear, but Alex would never lie to her. She pushed up a grin at the mention of the guitar. "I'm not the slacker here you know."
Alex's next question took her by surprise, and she paused midstep. "...Weird? At the show. I uh... I mean there was... There was the flash right, but that was just the bomb. I mean... What did you... What do you remember?" The man with horns flashed across her mind as she spoke.

Alex crinkled her nose, a face she usually made when trying to think under pressure. "I don't know what I saw? I thought I was high when it happened, but I stayed true to my word, no baking before a show." It was a problem just once in the past, and it was nipped in the bud before it could happen again. Alex could be a total couch potato with no sense of time when high.
"It just looked like . . . call me crazy, but I could've sworn someone just disappeared before the bomb went off. And like he was wearing some sort of costume."

Allison shrugged, "Yeah. A costume. Like-- Like a devil of some sort? Weird outfit to wear to a show though." Shaking her head, she looked up to Alex. "...You saw him disappear? I thought I just... I figured after everything I just sort of... I mean. A dream? Part of the accident... or attack. Or whatever it was."

She seemed to visibly relax, glad to know she wasn't the only one who saw the Devil disappear at their show. "Yeah, with horns and a red face!" she said, a bit too loudly and with too much enthusiasm. "It was so weird, one second there he was, the next he was gone, and boom. Guy hits him, then the place goes."

"Yeah... Yeah that's... that's what I remember too. But... I mean. What does that mean? People don't just... vanish Alex." Allison shook her head again, as much in confusion as any sort of denial. "I thought it was a dream but, we can't have the same dream."

Alex picked up the pace again, wanting her coffee even if it meant fighting off hipsters to get it. "We both got hit in the head. Maybe we had the same concussion dream?" she shrugged. She had no idea what it meant, and were she anyone else she might've shrugged it off. A normal mortal wouldn't feel so pressed into wanting to understand what happened. They would have seen something strange, blinked, and justified it as something that made sense to their minds.
What they saw was different. They peeked through the looking glass, completely unintentionally, and what they saw stared back at them. They watched space and time like voyeurs and it noticed them, slamming the door shut on their faces. A small taste of the unknown, leaving them drooling for more.

"I don't think head injuries work like that Alex." Allison laughed in response, a slightly nervous laugh now that something so unexplained seemed to have been real. "Still. That man, the costumed one? He disappeared better than any magician I've ever seen. And that other guy... there was a light or something wasn't there? Was that the bomb?"

Alex shrugged, pushing open the door to the Starbucks, now that they were at it. "Hard to believe a bomb small enough to fit in a guy's hand could blow the building like that. I thought it might've been his cell phone or something," she suggested, honestly not sure what it had been. She didn't expect a magic spell, though Allison was on the right track with her magician guess.
She settled herself in line to order, patting herself down to check for her wallet and phone.

"Or something." Allison echoed with a shrug, walking through the door and getting into the line behind Alex. She reached into her bag to find her card, still talking as she looked. "Honestly though, what's it matter? Some disappearing guy in a costume. Another with a phone or something. What does any of that mean to us? It doesn't change anything."

Another shrug. "I mean . . . it doesn't? I just can't shake the feeling that something was wrong. They moved a little further up the line, which was long for a Thursday afternoon.
"The police are sure it was a bomb, but there weren't any traces of one in the reports they released, she said, having clearly been looking into this before now.

"No. No you're right. It's like... like I can't quite shake the feeling that it's all wrong. But what do we do about it? The cops say it was a bomb, and I mean... the building got wrecked right? It's not like we're gonna figure out something the cops missed." Allison pulled out her card, holding it between her fingers for when it was her turn to order.

The barista greeted them both with a smile, as she was paid to do. "What can I get for you?" she asked, running on autopilot.
"Sixteen ounce triple shot hazelnut latte," she said out of habit. She knew nothing about coffee lingo, but that was the drink Rose always got, and thus it was the one coffee ordered. "It wouldn't hurt to take a look, would it?" She offered cash for the coffee, while giving Allison her signature "let's break the rules" smile.

"A venti iced mocha for me." Allison ordered as she stepped up to the counter, offering her card and turning to her sister as the transaction ran. "I mean... I suppose not? I don't know what you think we'll see but... sure." Signing her name on the receipt, she took back her card and returned it to her bag.
"You don't think it'll be weird to go back there?"
