"Right. Stop you from having a happily ever after. Activating annoying little sister mode." Allison grinned, "I should have more than enough embarrassing stories to keep any and all boys and girls off your skinny little butt!" She leaned back in the chair, mind scheming in a way only a younger sibling can.

Alex rolled her eyes, so many comments coming to mind, but tact stepping in and correcting her. "Watch, you'll get laid first, you're cuter," she betted, grinning to herself. Of course her mind went to getting laid over finding The One. True love, not the ring.

"Wait what?" Alex's words pulled Allison from her daydreaming, "I don't think hunting down our magic man is a ticket to any sort of dreamboat express thank you very much." She groaned, "So far it's just been creepy twitchy hobos and demon raccoon bat monsters. I'll pass on both."

Alex snickered, the truck slowing as they pulled into the parking lot of the Oregon Motel. It looked just like the internet suggested, a long, blue one story building with red doors marking each of the rooms. There was a No Vacancy sign underneath the larger sign advertising its name, but thankfully it wasn't lit up, meaning there was at least one room for them to rent for their adventure. "But what happens when we run across a hot werewolf? You'll hug his chest like . . . like one of those romance novels, and he'll look away, all misty eyed. "Allison," he'll say, his voice deep and gravelly, full of torment and regret, "there's something you must know,"" she went on, teasing her sister hardcore.

Allison groaned at her sisters tease, "Okay, A. We don't actually know there's any such thing as werewolves. I mean really that's... A bit obvious if there's people who turn into a wolf once a month. And B. Can we not bring up fourteen year old me's questionable tastes?" She of course referred to a popular set of novels that had then been made into movies and may have contained certain hot bodies werewolves.

IT'S GETTING DARK YOU'RE ALL ALONE there's nothing left but a place called home "Remember when you were all Team Jacob?" she asked, continuing to tease her sister. She recalled those days quite vividly, remembering how her sister begged their parents to take her to the Northtown Theater to see the movies as they came out. Not the Riverside Theater, oh no. Northtown, because it was so much better and the popcorn was a dollar cheaper there.
If that wasn't enough they had to get the DVDs as well. Alex had dreams about Kristen Stewart for months with how often those movies were played, like a song stuck in your head, but instead its a pretty lip-biting actress and oh God what are these feelings?
Alex killed the engine to the truck and almost immediately followed it up by slipping out the door. She had always been quick to unbuckle and open the door, always eager to get the move on from one location to the next. "I hope there's no such thing as the wolf-man, otherwise meeting the family is going to be really awkward when you bring Jacob Black home with you," she laughed, ending the teasing with one last quip.
The motel check-in was manned by a portly woman dressed in a floral pink shirt and pale blue jeans, which hugged her borderline obese frame in an unflattering way. She was an older woman, wrinkles putting her somewhere between fifty five and sixty five, not young enough to be in her low fifties, but not quite at seventy yet. Her sheet white hair was cut short, in a stylish attempt to make her look younger with a pixie hair-do.
"Hello, ladies," she began, her voice cracking with the tell-tale signs of a smoker. "Two beds, or are you looking for directions?" she asked, slowly turning in her chair to begin typing in information onto the computer, assuming they'd want a room with how ragged and tired they looked. Allison got to at least nap in cramped quarters, while Alex had to stay up after waking up at who knew what hour to pick her sister up.

Allison groaned, leaning back in her seat as she immediately came to regret opening up this topic again. "Look, in my defense he is pretty hot. And the books weren't... that bad." Another comment she could quickly come to regret depending on how far her sister chose to push the subject.
Thankfully it didn't come to that as the truck pulled into a parking space and Alex turned it off. Unlike her sister, Allison took a moment to stretch as much as the truck allowed before pushing open her door to climb out. "Hah hah. Let's just focus on our wayward wizard shall we?" She reached back to get her bag and sling it onto her shoulder before following her sister into the motel.
Hanging behind her sister as they entered, she looked over the ratty lobby and wondered if this really was the best they could manage. Still she turned a smile to the woman at the desk, "I think we're looking for two beds, right?" She took the moment to turn away from the receptionist toward her sister with one final weary look of 'Really?'

YOU'RE WORRIED SICK YOU MIGHT NOT MAKE IT there's so much noise you just can't take it Alex flashed her sister a reassuring smile, after all she felt like this was going to be a good thing for them. A cheap, under-priced motel meant that they would have more money to use on other things, things that Alex had yet to bring up to her sister, but knew that she would eventually. She still hadn't told her about the gun underneath the driver's seat of her truck, or how they would need more than that little pea-shooter if it meant carrying out the quest for revenge. They had to operate on fear, and Alex was afraid Tiberiu would go all Neo on their asses and stop any bullets they shot at him.
"Two beds, please," she said, her voice almost sickeningly sweet if one knew how she usually spoke. While her voice made her out to seem like an innocent schoolgirl, her look certainly painted her as punk, which explained why the woman gave her a strange, almost confused look before returning to clacking away at the computer.
"And do you know how long you might be staying?" she asked, filling out some of the information boxes. "And can I get a quick looksie at your ID?" she requested, holding out her hand for Alex's ID. She fumbled around for it in her wallet. One thing could be said about Alex's sense of style, she always knew to get pants that had actual pockets in them, allowing her to carry around what was considered to be a man's wallet wherever she went.
"Hopefully only the one night," she said, not going into further detail over why they were in town. Her ID betrayed her home town, showing just how far she had traveled to get here, but all things considered it wasn't a long trek. It would only be a noteworthy thing once they moved further south and beyond, but Alex was riding on catching their wizard here in Portland and wiping their hands clean of the whole mess.

Allison rolled her eyes as her sister smiled, adjusting the strap of her bag before turning back around as Alex spoke with the receptionist. Her sister wasn't the most subtle when it came to charming others, and Allison was usually surprised at how well it worked coming from her.
She took the moment to do another once over of the lobby they were standing in. It was certainly one of the dirtier places she'd ever stayed, but if Alex said it was where they needed to be, she'd trust her sister's judgement. At least Alex had been to Portland before, unlike Allison who could only really claim to know Spokane and Seattle. Any other traveling had been when she was a girl, and the areas hadn't stuck too well.
Once Alex was done talking with the receptionist she'd offer a wave and a smile to the older woman and prayed that her sister was right about the visit only lasting the one night.

IT'S GETTING DARKER NOW and all you hear are lullaby After a bit of back and forth, along with a heavy blanket of white lies, Alex finished booking them their room and collected both the key and her ID back. She gave Allison one last smile as they left the lobby together, that smile necessary because she realized just how cheap the motel really was. They were paying very little a night for the place, and all things considered, if the cost of renting a room was that low the quality was sure to match it.
"You know what I want," she started, slipping the key into its proper lock. "A motel with bunkbeds. Is that too much to ask for?" Sometimes it was hard to believe that Alex really was twenty five.
As she opened the door and entered they were hit by a sudden sense of disappointment. The carpet offered zero padding or support, and felt like they were walking on hairy concrete. The beds were fitted with a thin sheet and pink blankets that were hardly any better. At least Portland remained somewhat warm in temperature throughout the year, rarely dipping below thirty five even in the middle of Winter.
There was an archaic T.V. and a single nightstand between the two beds, while the only source of light in the room was a single domed light in the center of the ceiling. Allison had every right to hate the place, and even Alex was beginning to find it hard to swallow their new living arrangements. At least it was better than living under a bridge.

"We haven't had bunkbeds since I was... nine? Ten?" Allison shook her head as she followed after her sister, "Well... I had a... half bunkbed in college? In that there was a top bunk with my bed and I had a desk underneath it for schoolwork..." She trailed off as they reached the door to their room.
The reveal was somehow able to be more disappointing than even Allison was ready for. "Oh my god is that a tube TV? Do they still make those? I take back what I said in the truck Alex, I am actually impressed this place has free wifi." Shaking her head, she made her way into the room and tossed her bag onto the bed, a lack of bounce demonstrating how hard the mattress was beneath.
"Well... I guess we might as well get started, right? Unless you'd like to take in the uh... comforts of our home for the night?"

IT'S A LONG WAY HOME AND ALL I SEE IS DARKNESS an angel in a dark dress don't you leave me here Alex cringed a little as she looked around, the vagrant in her struggling to find comfort in their shabby dwelling. Like she thought earlier, it could've been worse, but years of having her own bed had certainly softened her spine. She'd have to remedy that for sure.
"Oh God no, let's get this over with as quickly as possible," she said, almost frantically. The longer they waited the smaller a window they had to catch their murderous wizard. "I wish there was a table to lay this out on, but I guess the beds are hard enough for it?" she joked, removing Tiberiu's wallet from her inside coat pocket. As she sat down on the bed she quickly realized how true her joke actually was, earning another cringe from her.

Allison paused only long enough to dig out her laptop before she moved to join her sister on the bed. "So on a scale of horror motel to action hero motel what do you rate this place?" She threw back to their conversation in the car, easing to cope with the fact that she was righter than she wanted to be. It would also help to pass the time while they dug everything out of Houdini's wallet and her laptop booted up.
"I figure we should focus on all the paper trails tonight. The rock hasn't... well the rock isn't really leading us to anything but old wive's tales and migraines. Besides which I don't think we'd learn much about where this guy is by looking at it."

IT'S A LONG WAY HOME AND ALL I SEE IS DARKNESS i'm in a sea of darkness so don't you leave me here Letting out a deep sigh, Alex poked through the wallet and began removing scraps of paper and various notes. She was still unnerved by the fact that the fine leather wallet was able to hold more than was physically possible, but she had at least come to terms with the fact, able to answer the question with "magic" rather than scratching her head and puzzling over it all night long.
"We need to figure out if he has some sort of hideout, or where he might have gone next after his terrorist attack," she mused aloud, rubbing the back of her neck as she started unfolding some of the scraps of paper. The one in her hands had several strange symbols, all surrounding a sea of dots and circles, some larger than others.

Allison simply shrugged, "You'd figure he'd have some point in coming here of all places right? Unless he was just passing through but if that's the case..." Shaking her head, she reached for one of the crumpled scraps and bringing it up to study.
Given that she had some idea that they were now dealing with magic, she had something to cross-check with her laptop now. Going through the notes, she'd try and search descriptions of the symbols or simply cross-reference them with various magical symbols online. And given how their first night of research ended, she opted to pass each thing through various satanic rituals and spells before trying anything else.
"Imagine if you'd studied this hard back at school... or you know, at all? I don't think I've ever seen you so intent on something like this before." Allison teased, trying to keep spirits up a bit as they went, and just make some conversation to fill the silence.
