Halfway back to Ferrum found Keani wandering the ship, as restless now as in the first hours after the course was plotted. Making her way out of the galley with a tray of food and a pot of coffee, she headed to the cockpit and into Cate's sanctum. "Thought you could use some grub and drink," she told the pilot, grinning as she stepped in the doorway. "I figure keeping you fed and happy means we don't end up crashing through black holes and pulsars."

Cate was a diligent pilot, without her guiding hand the Paragon would surely crash into the nearest sun. Which is why Keani came into the cockpit to find her arguing with a small stuffed panda that occupied a space on the dashboard. "--os it ain't natural! No look. She don't like you like that, alright? Just let off it. Bo she's a squirrel!"
Keani's voice pulls her out of the apparently heated exchange, and she spins the chair back to face the counselor. "Oh hey doc. Grub time already? Ya didn't have to go an' do that for me." She smiles wide, as if she hadn't been yelling at a stuffed doll three seconds prior.

The counselor looks to the stuffed animals for a moment during Cate's quiet outburst, the tray in her hands trembling slightly as she made her way deeper into the cockpit. "It's fine, kitty Cate. Figure I'll do something like that for anyone who'd want just before we hit dirtside." She returns the pilot's smile, setting the tray on a nearby console before passing Cate the coffee pot. "Besides, saves you the walk to the galley."
Keani glances at the stuffed animals again, grabbing her own mug of tea from the tray. "Bo stepping out of his league? Or just making the wrong kinds of advances? She grins over the rim of the mug as she sips, settling into the chair in front of the navcom.

Cate takes the coffee, spinning back around to fill her mug before setting it down. "Bo." She stresses the name, "Seems t' think it's alright for a panda an' a squirrel to get down an' dirty. I'm tryin' to strike some sense into him." She takes a sip of the coffee. "...Much appreciated for this Keenie."
Setting the cup down, she flicks a few buttons that would let the Paragon continue its smooth flying while she entertained her guest. "Maybe you could talk some sense into him. You're the one that's all good with the psycho-analyzin' and what not." Sometimes it was hard to believe that Cate ever graced a medical school.

Keani props her feet up on the edge of the chair, leaning back as it spins her to face Cate. She cups the mug in both hands, letting the steam rise as she inhales the tea's fragrance. "You mean it's not normal for pandas and squirrels to get freaky together?" She laughs before taking another sip, looking back to the stuffed animals.
"So, Bo. What exactly do you see in squirrels that the lady pandas don't have? The ears? The way their cheeks puff out? Their fluffy tails?" Keani tries to put on a serious face, looking down into the contents of her mug. "Why do have to give Cate a hard time about it? She knows better than you, you know."

Cate lays an arm across her stomach as she watches Keani start talking to the panda. "Cos it's the right side t' take is why! Look, we can get ya a nice panda girl some time, just leave 'er alone. No Petal ain't gonna mind, she don't like ya you dumb butt. Fine! Sulk!" She huffs, turning back to Keani. "...Sorry 'bout him. Bear's are stubborn, y'know? Anyways, how ya holdin' up?"

Keani's expression does crack slightly, the studious therapist giving way to a wide grin once Cate turns her attention to Bo and Petal. She shakes her head, quickly taking another sip. "Good, all things told. Just can't get to sleep yet. Been trying to keep busy and wear myself out, but..." She shrugs, looking back to Cate. "Still a bit spooked after what happened, I guess."

Cate frowned, "Ain't none of it left t' bother us Keenie. Don't go lettin' ghosts keep ya from sleepin'. Just a no good parasite that got put down." Shaking her head, she turned to the tray Keani had brought her and pulling it onto her lap. "Look at me. I already got m'self a nap, and this is the second meal I've gotten on this lovely flight."
Taking a sip of her coffee, she looked back at the Counselor. "An' we'll take care o' that other parasite when we get to Ferrum. The Finch-lady'll see it done."

"I try not to, Cate. It's just hard knowing what could've been there. Just... feeling it. How hungry it was..." Keani closes her eyes, shivering in the chair. "That's not something I ever want to feel again, Cate. Just the hunger, and..." She goes quiet, looking down into her mug. "Yeah, the boss'll deal with him once we hit dirtside. It's just the waiting for that time to come, now..."
She looks over to the pilot, offering a faint grin. "You know what you should do? Get Finnie to play some of his classical stuff over the comm. Rest of the crew would probably appreciate the atmosphere while we're waiting to hit Ferrum."

Cate tilted her head curiously, "The hunger-- oh right. You're one of them psychic types. Ewwww. You felt that thing? That's awful Keenie." She glanced down at her tray prodding at the food idly for a moment. "Maybe ya just need to eat some good grub yourself. That's how I forget about bein' hungry."
She groaned at the second suggestion, "Uuugh. You too? What's with you brainy times an' likin' that classical junk? I can deal with the old vids cos they're so corny but I just don't see the appeal in the music."

Keani finishes off her tea, twirling the empty mug in hand as she nods to Cate. "Yeah, something like that. That thing's stuff rooting through my head before it jumped on Finnie." She shrugs, shifting in the chair. "Maybe you're right. I'll grab a bite to eat before we hit atmo. Hope that settles things down."
She scoffs at Cate's dislike for the finer things in life. "It's not like I'm asking you to throw that Narid New-Synth on the speakers, Cate. All those mandible clacks and wing beats aren't my thing. I'd rather real classics like the Ladies or the Beatles. At least they've got words you can understand." She grins, scooting forward in the chair. "Bo can probably listen to them and get himself a real lady panda."

Cate rolled her eyes, "I don' listen t' bug music neither!" She huffed, "Just-- that's all such hokey music. Like things your grandma listens to. Or y'know, dinosaurs. If it ain't too old for them too." She shrugged finally, "You can do it if you want. I'll just block out the cockpit's speakers. Don't need to hear that noise for the next ten hours."

"No, dinosaurs listened to cooler music than this. Hell, don't tell anyone I like listening to real classics like The Sound of Music or The Little Mermaid. My reputation couldn't handle the hit." Keani laughs while standing from her chair, looking down to the navcom. "Want me to grab anything for you or Bo from the galley?"

Cate raised a brow, "Grab anythin'? Ya brought me an entire meal I ain't hardly touched yet. I think I'm good for now Keenie, thanks." She smiled to the counselor, "You should try an' grab some rest before Ferrum though. Ya ain't Silas, you need your beauty sleep."

"Soon I think, Cate. I think the tea's been helping." Keani turns to the doorway for the cockpit, looking over her shoulder toward the pilot. "That, and talk with good people. Keep her flying right while we're snoozing." She grins, pressing the console to open the doors. "If Bo gives you trouble, send him to my office. I'll be happy to talk some sense into him."
